To be sustainable, you should always use local materials in your house. Because being sustainable does not mean to use
bamboo as an ecological material but you spend much more energy to bring it to your home. You can make your own sustainable material. For example, you can use
reclaimed wood on the floors, walls and the fittings. Or you can use
lime plaster instead of cement on the walls, because it is
breathable and low energy to manufacture.
Straw bale as an insulation material on the floor, walls and the roof, it is
cheap and easy. You can use
white canvas anywhere you like to
protect from the excessive heat.
Thermowood, paperstone, recycled timber... such materials which are
zero or low VOC (non-toxic) materials.
